North Sea Jazz is coming to Curacao!

The first ever Cura�ao North Sea Jazz Festival will take place Friday, September 3-4, 2010 at the World Trade Center (WTC) on Piscadera Bay in Cura�ao.

Throughout the Festival, international artists with some of the biggest names in the jazz, funk, soul, Latin, and R&B worlds, will perform in and around the WTC.

Headliners include John Legend, Lionel Richie, Sergio Medes, Luis Enrique, La India, George Benson, Simply Red, Raul Mid�n, Natalie Cole, Grupo Fantasma, Mulato, Randal Corsen, Roy Hargrove, and El Negro.

There will be nine concerts each day, taking place at the same time on three different stages. All proceeds from the Festival will be donated to charity.

Afgelopen zondag bleven de bezoekers binnenstromen, gedurende de gehele dag zijn er meer dan 1.300 bezoekers geweest. Iedereen wilde een kijkje nemen in de woningen die open waren gesteld voor deze speciale dag en zien hoe het project is gevorderd.

Er reed een treintje rond over het park langs alle woningen welke telkens helemaal vol met bezoekers waren. De sfeer zat er goed in dankzij de muziek van DJ Juice en het was druk rond de tafels van de verkopers om opties vast te leggen en bezoekers te informeren over de mogelijkheden van Villapark Fontein. Iedere bezoeker die zich inschreef kreeg een informatieset en een 5% kortingspenning speciaal voor de open dag.

Het liep hard met sommige hoger gelegen kavels, waar mensen soms tegelijk een optie op namen. Dit zal door het Villapark Fontein team netjes ge�nventariseerd worden, waarna de betreffende klanten die het eerst genoteerd zijn de kans krijgen een aanbetaling te doen op de gewenste kavel om vervolgens gebruik te kunnen maken van de befaamde 5% kortingspenning voor 1 december.

De Paus & Vesseur, accountants en belastingadviseurs schreven een memo over de verschillende wijzen waarop je verhuur van onroerend goed in de Nederlandse Antillen kunt inrichten.

In dit memorandum wordt stilgestaan bij de mogelijke gevolgen van de verhuur van onroerend goed voor de Nederlandse Antilliaanse inkomstenbelasting, winstbelasting en omzetbelasting en maken ze onderscheid tussen de volgende alternatieven:

- het houden van onroerend goed in priv� (passief vermogensbeheer);
- het bedrijfsmatig exploiteren van onroerend goed in priv�;
- verhuur door middel van een Nederlands Antilliaanse NV, of een (vaste inrichting van een) buitenlandse rechtspersoon;
- verhuur door middel van een Stichting Particulier Fonds.

Gol to Add Caribbean Flights

On GOL's (brazilian airline) website, Curacao is not yet visible as destination but on 24 June Bloomberg reported the following:

June 24 (Bloomberg) -- Gol, based in Sao Paulo, will start flights next month to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and the islands of Curacao and Aruba in the Netherlands Antilles. The airline also plans to begin operations to the Brazilian cities of Bauru, about 300 kilometers (187 miles) west of Sao Paulo, as well as Aracatuba and Montes Claros.

Where you can travel without worry, and feel super-secure

Given some Caribbean islands' reputation for violent crime and the high-profile Natalee Holloway case in Aruba, it may seem counterintuitive to include the Dutch ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) on a list of the world's safest places to travel.

But the stats don't lie: Crime rates on the three islands are low, political unrest is virtually unknown, they're too far south for hurricanes, and in 2008 the trio ranked lowest in the Caribbean in felonious incidents against visiting yachts. In fact, Aruba was the only place in the region to achieve a perfect score on the yacht crime survey.

To find the world's ultra-safe places to travel we analyzed piles of data, from U.S. State Department warnings on crime against U.S. citizens abroad and the latest United Nations survey on global crime trends to the Mercer rankings of the world's safest cities. We also looked at other fear factors: natural disasters, social or political unrest, warfare and terrorism. However, the criteria are too varied to make a definitive ranking credible and to rank the 10 safest countries. Some of our choices were obvious: bucolic New Zealand, neutral Switzerland and squeaky-clean Singapore. As for omissions, the Scandinavian countries and some very small island nations would make a longer list of 20 or 25.

Some of our findings are surprising. Maybe it's movies like "Gangs of New York" and guilt by association with the ongoing troubles across the border in Ulster, but the Irish have always had a rather gruff reputation. But you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. A recent World Health Organization study named the Emerald Isle the least violent country in Europe. And according to the latest Mercer rankings of the world's safest urban areas, Dublin is less dangerous than major cities in Japan, Australia or Canada.

WILLEMSTAD - De bevolking van Cura�ao heeft vrijdagavond (lokale tijd) ingestemd met de staatskundige herstructurering van het eiland die met Nederland is overeengekomen. Het referendum liep uit op een nek-aan-nek race tussen voor- en tegenstanders van het akkoord. Het ja-kamp won uiteindelijk met een nipte meerderheid van 52 procent.

Oppositieleider Charles Cooper stelde kort na het referendum de uitslag te respecteren. Hij wees wel op het grote aantal nee-stemmers. ''Dit geeft aan dat het volk heel verdeeld is. De huidige regering moet nu aangeven wat ze met dat resultaat doet'', stelde Cooper.

De Antilliaanse premier Emily de Jongh-Elhage kondigde direct na de bekendmaking van de uitslag aan met de oppositie om te tafel te willen. ''We moeten niet blijven steken in verdeeldheid'', benadrukte ze.

Premier Jan Peter Balkenende is blij met de positieve uitslag. Hij feliciteerde De Jongh-Elhage. Ook staatssecretaris Ank Bijleveld (Koninkrijksrelaties) was opgetogen. Ze vindt het echter 'zorgelijk' dat zo'n groot aantal kiezers nee heeft gezegd. Die tweedeling zag je steeds sterker, aldus de bewindsvrouw. ''Die legt een grote verantwoordelijkheid bij het bestuur daar.''

Ook Cura�ao�naars die in Nederland wonen zijn verdeeld over de uitkomst van de volksraadpleging. Op een bijeenkomst van het Overlegorgaan Caribische Nederlanders (OCaN) bleek vrijdagavond ongeveer de helft (53 procent) van de circa honderd aanwezigen het akkoord te steunen.

OCaN-voorzitter Glenn Helberg toonde zich vooral opgelucht dat het referendum achter de rug is. ''52 Procent lijkt misschien weinig, maar het volk heeft echt gesproken. Laten we nu de rijen sluiten'', aldus Helberg.

De opkomst bij het referendum was 13 procent hoger dan bij het vorige referendum over de positie van Cura�ao in het Koninkrijk. In totaal hebben 79.761 personen bij het referendum hun stem uitgebracht. Dat is 67 procent van de 118.827 stemgerechtigden. 52 Procent (41.398 kiezers) stemde voor het verdrag; 48 procent, 38.363 kiezers, stemde tegen.

De bevolking sprak zich in het referendum uit over een akkoord tussen Nederland en Cura�ao, waarin afspraken zijn gemaakt over meer autonomie voor Cura�ao. Nederland neemt verder een groot deel van de schuldenlast van het eiland over in ruil voor meer financieel toezicht.

Op justitieel gebied zijn onder meer afspraken gemaakt over de bestrijding van corruptie, grensoverschrijdende criminaliteit en een goede rechtsorde. Tegenstanders zijn van mening dat Cura�ao met het akkoord te veel autonomie inlevert. Zij wilden opnieuw onderhandelen over een akkoord.
